ARTIST PROFILE
Jody Ess is an unconventional and self taught artist, with a multi-faceted creative path and a fondness for the alternative.
Growing up regionally in the mining town of Kalgoorlie, and living a largely transient lifestyle, Jody’s approach to art and life alike is resourceful, improvisational, hands-on and direct.
Jody’s paintings are inspired by crude realism, abstract expressionism, urban culture and dark art. Her pieces feature figures that emanate a somewhat unsettling but magnetic energy; they are statements of outspoken and honest realities, and larger-than-life personalities.
They captivate the spaces they occupy, and invite you in to celebrate the unusual, the unexpected, the weird and the different. Her works involve heavy use of bold acrylics along with aerosols, inks, pastels and repurposed materials.
You will currently find Jody working in her private Fremantle Art Studio where you can view her available paintings via appointment, or at numerous festivals and venues around WA painting things on random walls and fencing panels.
